About Me

Biography

Ashley Higgins is a sophomore from Davidsonville, MD studying psychology and biology at the University of Maryland.

Her artistic interests include vocal performance, visual art, and creative writing. Her vocal performances include solo and choir events. Ashley is passionate about the act of creating visual art, and creates pieces she finds visually appealing. When it comes to writing, she explores the use of metaphors to express her emotions that are harder to describe. Ashley’s artistic goal is to express her journey through mental health and end the stigma surrounding mental illness by providing outsiders an inner view of the real thoughts and feelings of humans with mental illness.

After completing a bachelor’s degree in psychology and biology, Ashley plans to go to graduate school for a doctorate in psychology to pursue a career in psychological research or clinical treatment to directly contribute to improving the lives of those around her.

In Art Scholars, Ashley will use her capstone project as an opportunity to spread further awareness of mental illness through a therapy workshop, and she will broaden her cultural horizons. Before graduation, she wishes to have experience through a number of internships, and explorations of different psychological careers, to choose the correct graduate program.
